Dr Smith is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, elbow and upper limb surgery.
Dr Smith obtained his medical degree at the University of Leeds and began surgical training in Edinburgh receiving membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. He migrated to Australia in 2002 and completed Advanced Orthopaedic Training in Queensland and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. In 2011 he was the Shoulder and Elbow Fellow at the Royal North Shore Hospital before returning to the UK for the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre and subsequently the Elbow, Wrist and Hand Fellowship at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. These fellowships enhanced his experience in all aspects of upper limb surgery including joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery and trauma.
Dr Smith has an active research interest including stemless shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder resurfacing and shoulder instability. He has published on a number of subjects in the peer reviewed literature and has presented at both national and international meetings.
